Guns N’ Roses’ new song “Absurd” isn’t exactly new, it was first recorded in the late 90’s/early 2000’s as “Silkworms.” It debuted live in 2001, and a demo version leaked online. Axl Rose’s vocals appear to be recorded from this time period, and the drums are played by former GNR drummer Bryan ‘Brain’ Mantia, likely recorded 20 years ago when he was still in the band. It appears Slash and Duff McKagan reworked the guitar and bass on the song, but most of the other work was done 20 years ago.

MattyDarce wrote on Reddit, “I’m not going to lie, I kind of miss the original chorus. But… the mix is awesome.

How can I hate on this? An unexpected surprise. This is great.

Having been a fan through the dry spell of much of the 90s, and the dreaded 2003 to 2005 era, I’m happy to hear music officially released.”

JimasaurusRex added, “I’m happy they led off with this one. I’m assuming this is the first of a handful of singles, or perhaps an album. That being said, I’m surprised that Silkworms got an official release at all. But I wont complain haha.”
