Cleveland.com is reporting that the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s class of 2017 will be revealed next week, and that Pearl Jam are likely to be inducted.
“While arguments can (and will) be made for all 19 of the nominees, there’s one artist most people would bet their life savings on getting in.
Pearl Jam checks off all the boxes when it comes to Rock Hall candidacy and is certainly on the same level as recent first ballot inductees like Nirvana and Green Day.”
They also wrote:
“While Nirvana made a bigger impact during the grunge movement of the 1990s, Pearl Jam was more influential. Looking at the landscape of rock music since that time, you’ll find far more bands whose sound traces back to Eddie Vedder and company.
Sure, some of those bands stink (Nickelback, Creed). But a lot of them don’t (Matchbox Twenty, Stone Temple Pilots) and have sold a lot of records. Besides, influence is influence and if you can find a more influential rock singer of the past 25 years than Vedder, you’re probably lying to yourself.”

Former Pearl Jam drummer Dave Abbruzzese yet again clarified his reaction to not being listed as part of Pearl Jam’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nominated lineup in response to an RTT News story on Facebook.
“I AM REQUESTING THAT THE MEDIA PLEASE REFRAIN FROM ATTEMPTING TO MAKE A negative STORY OUT OF THIS. It is a drag that these ‘writers’ are taking FACEBOOK comments out of context and using them to create a story that doesn’t exist.
I AM NOT SLAMMING THE HALL OF FAME OR PEARL JAM. I understand that there may be some flaws inherent to the balloting process. I reacted emotionally, and my reaction was based on a lack of understanding. I have spoken to friends and peers and I am resolved to wait patiently to watch and see how it works out. I am not looking to ruffle any feathers. I am not angry with the RRHOF or PEARL JAM.”
Alternative Nation has reached out to Abbruzzese for an interview for further discuss his feelings on his time with Pearl Jam and the band’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nomination.
Last Thursday, Abbruzzese posted thoughts on his exclusion from Pearl Jam’s nominated lineup for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
“Hey everybody! I just had a little back and forth with my main man, drum tech and friend Jimmy Shoaf. Just so you all know. It doesn’t take away anything from what we experience and accomplished, back there behind the kit and a stack of amps.
Best seat in the house.
…And as far as I am concerned, every night that I was behind that kit & driving that band, was my night.
I rarely gave anything less than all I had to give. I left that stage feeling like I gave you all you could want, then punched ya square in the stomach and you liked it.
I liked it, too. I still do. So do you…
…Knowing that makes me happy.
I don’t feel snubbed, I was shocked at first because I didn’t know that the R&RHOF folks don’t really know what’s up. In the little press snippets that is going around, I seem upset. I think it’s cool that it’s happening. Now I’ll see how it plays out. I am so moved and proud. I am proud to have touched so many with what I do and did with music. I look forward to unveiling the lineup and turning you all on to my first solo album. More on that coming soon!!”
Abbruzzese wrote last Wednesday morning.
“The members of Pearl Jam have got to know what’s the right thing to do. They can’t justify ignoring my contributions. Like me or not.”
Alternative Nation broke the news on Abbruzzese’s initial reaction to his Rock and Roll Hall of Fame exclusion last Wednesday.
“It’s just a fine opportunity to see what Pearl Jam has to say in response. Let’s see if they do the right thing. It’ll be interesting to see the spin that is put on it.
That band and its management have never been ones to shy away when an injustice is done. Let’s see if they still have the courage to fight the good fight!”
He also wrote.
“I’ve seen them change a 15 year old settlement agreement just by ignoring its contents and withholding money that didn’t belong to them in order to force me to accept the changes. They know how to play the game…their way!”
