Soundgarden members Kim Thayil, Ben Shepherd, and Matt Cameron reunited with Grunge icon Tad Doyle to cover the Alice In Chains classic “Angry Chair” for AIC’s MoPOP show on Tuesday night. Thayil, Shepherd, and Cameron famously formed ‘Tadgarden’ with Doyle in 2009, performing “Spoonman” live together for the first time since Soundgarden’s last February 1997 show.

Chris Cornell later noted that hearing about this performance helped inspire him to want to reunite with Soundgarden, and a year later in April 2010, the band were back together performing at the Showbox in Seattle.

“Angry Chair” is a fan favorite among Alice In Chains fans, as it’s one of the few AIC songs solely penned by Layne Staley, who not only penned the lyrics, but also wrote the classic guitar riff, along with “Hate to Feel” on Dirt.

Soundgarden last reunited in January 2019 to perform at the ‘I Am The Highway’ Chris Cornell tribute show, with guest singers including Taylor Momsen and Taylor Hawkins. Matt Cameron and Kim Thayil are teaming up again with Taylor Momsen on The Pretty Reckless’ new album Death By Rock and Roll in 2021.

Thayil has also toured with MC50 in the years following Chris Cornell’s May 2017 death, while Cameron released Gigaton with Pearl Jam earlier this year. Soundgarden have an unreleased final album they are currently in a legal battle over regarding its release.
