Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler‘s doctor Steven Zietels detailed a surgery he performed on the singer in the past that he is now performing on New York Yankees announcer Michael Kay. Tyler was filmed hitting bandmate Joe Perry with a scarf in a new onstage video.

Dr. Steven Zietels said, “Michael Kay, the Yankees television PBP broadcaster (and ESPN Radio broadcaster) underwent vocal cord microsurgery to treat vocal cord bleeding associated with a polyp. This benign condition is typically the result of unstable blood vessels in the vocal cord along with high performance voice use.

Mr. Kay came to Boston to consult and I defo corrective voice surgery with Dr Zietels (dir of the Mass General Hospital Voice Center and at the Harvard Medical School) who has pioneer many vocal cord procedures including the use of specialized lasers to correct vocal bleeding in performers and singers. He has done this unique procedure for many vocalists, including Steven Tyler, Keith Urban & Adele, allowing them to return to full performance. Summarily, Dr Zeitels expects Mr Kay to make a full recovery from his laser microsurgery.”

Kay said, “Not gonna be tweeting much, but I want to tell you all how overwhelmed I have been with the outpouring of love and support from both my colleagues in the broadcasting community as well as the fans of Yankees baseball and the ESPN radio show.

I am humbled and sometimes moved to tears about how kind everyone has been. It has meant a lot during a difficult time when you start to question what’s ahead. Thank you all so much and I wish to be back shortly.”
