Toni Cornell performs emotional Chris Cornell song
Following the song’s 2022 GRAMMY nomination, the 17-year-old Toni Cornell hit The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to perform her dad’s cover of Nothing Compares 2 U.
Toni took to Instagram to share a brief clip of the cover, saying that the performance was “in honor of my dad to celebrate his two new Grammy nominations! Daddy I am so honored and hope I did you proud”.
Toni was joined by a backing band and string quartet for the stunning rendition of Chris’ wonderful cover, which appears on the posthumous album No One Sings Like You Anymore. The original version was written by Prince in 1985, and then popularised by Sinéad O’Connor five years later.
Chris Cornell’s Nothing Compares 2 U is nominated in the Best Rock Performance category in next year’s GRAMMYs, along with AC/DC’s Shot In The Dark, Black Pumas’ Know You Better (Live From Capitol Studio A), Deftones’ Ohms and Making A Fire by Foo Fighters.
