Former Wildabouts bassist Tommy Black has shared a photo on Instagram remembering Scott Weiland. Black wrote, “Pre show tea… Honey, Throat coat, apple cider vinegar, lemon, Cayenne. We all miss him 🙁 photo Jamie Weiland.” Black also performed “Vasoline” with Billy Morrison on January 9th at the Viper Room, but the performance went unnoticed by fans until Alternative Nation uncovered video footage today.

Stone Temple Pilots bassist Robert DeLeo recently discussed Scott Weiland’s death with Loudwire.

“He brought a lot of this band. He was the frontman of this band and he’s partly responsible for why I’m sitting here talking to you today. That’s the honest truth. I’ll always cherish what we did together musically. That comes but once in a lifetime for people, or not at all for people. To share art together and have it go to the places where it went to for us. I’ll always be in deep, deep gratitude for having him in my life and I think it’s really sad and as time goes by I can’t believe the guy is gone. I really can’t believe he’s gone.

It’s really sad and I guess that’s the beauty of music, though. I simply have to go on YouTube and there he is. There he is and there we are, and there we are sharing something really amazing together. I think that’s what lives on. That thing we created together, I’ll always cherish for the rest of my life.”

Stone Temple Pilots’ Dean and Robert DeLeo were interviewed on 105.7 The Point yesterday about their singer search, and Alternative Nation transcribed quotes.

Dean said, “You know in 3 seconds whether this person is worth pursuing or not.”

They also responded to a fan who told them to change their name, since an iconic frontman like Scott Weiland is irreplaceable. Another told them they have the right to keep the name, since it’s 3/4 of the original members still performing Stone Temple Pilots songs.

Robert adamantly defended keeping the name without Weiland, “I kind of look at it this way. There were 3/4 of us that were responsible with Scott, making STP. For instance, you have a company like Coca Cola, and you have someone running Coca Cola. If they’re not there any more, do you change the name of Coca Cola?” Robert added that changing the name at this point in his life didn’t make sense, “It’s easy for someone to say that, and get on their computer, and write that in, but if you’re in that position in life, that’s the last thing I want to do right now.” He added that if he were in his 20’s, we would change his name, but that he now ‘can’t afford to do it.’

Dean said, “I see the point there on both comments, I do, I see the point. It’s interesting, because there’s people that say, ‘That was Scott’s band.’ Well I’m going to tell you something, if this was Scott’s band, it would have been run into the ground by 1998. It would have been over. That’s the way he lived his life. We’re talking about a guy that killed himself, unfortunately, the tragedy of that. Robert, Eric, and I were the guys who managed through thick and thin to keep him together, he relied upon us, we relied upon him. He got farther, and farther away from this world, and there was no coming back man.”

The DeLeos also revealed that Chester Bennington told them he was quitting STP 8 to 9 months ago, and that they planned to have a singer search before Scott Weiland died.

That Coca Cola analogy is just plain dumb, and desperate.

Peoples love and respect for STP goes further than the STP name and delves into each individual behind it, Coke does not. I think a better way to look at it is there would be no Captain Planet if one of the planeteers died, and thus we have the current issue.

Stop slapping your dick on the legacy of what WAS a great band. Not what IS, as we cannot bring back a very important component of it. STP is dead, and died when you kicked the bloke out of the band. If you’re going to be honest and upfront about Scotts disease at least be up front and honest and say without the STP name you don’t know where your next pay check is coming from.

The irony of all this is if they leave the STP name alone it will appreciate with time – they were that great a band. If you continue to use the STP name it will be worth way less in years to come as whatever you put out will just be seen as a few desperate aging rockers trying to make a buck.

STP was a great band, but FFS you are fighting a losing battle. Led Zeppelin called it a day after Bonham died, Queen after Mercury died, Nirvana after Cobain died. If you want to be seen like these great bands do the right thing and deal with it like these guys did. If pre 2001 George, Paul and Ringo tried to put together a band and called it the Beatles what would of your reaction been? I don’t even know you yet I know what your answer would be.

We as fans are not idiots. Whether you like it or not without Scott Weiland there is no STP.

    • Chris Warren

Total bullshit Ricky. You are not a fan, you are a self absorbed narcissist, who thinks its all about YOU. This band belonged to FOUR guys not ONE. Fans are a large part of the reason they are successful, but if it wasn’t for the entire band doing the work, lazy fans like you who don’t get it would have nothing to say about anything. Fans can are also many times misinformed like you, and act like you were there for all of it, and its borderline insanity. If STP took all of the vitriol to heart, they would wind up ruined. Thank GOD STP has their own minds. Now go listen to some other band and leave this one out of your ignorant rants.

      • Ricky Johnson

I’m confused. Am I a fan or am I not? You’ve said both.

Less emotion next time Angelface, it achieves nothing. A kiss on the lips for you however Christopher, open mouth. xox

        • Chris Warren

Yes, you are confused. I was only speaking of “Lazy Fans” like you who actually think they are fans. Yes, have your opinions, but be ready to defend your tripe.

          • This Chic Over Here

Your condescending tone doesn’t make your opinion any more valid than anyone else’s.

      • Corndog

Fuck me, you took that well. Try to relax mate.

        • Chris Warren

Relax? It’s fans who rant like the dicksmack above that needs to relax. All these things idiots like Ricky comment on, they wouldn’t go to the source of their anger and say anything like what he did to their faces, so he is fair game to trash.

          • Nikki

And what, pray tell, is the source of your anger Chris? Would you talk like this face to face to those here that have so grievously offended you? Fair game to trash? Really? I think Ricky made some great points regarding the band name appreciating over time if they just left it alone. My guess fwiw, is that time will prove him right.

I’m going to make a stab in the dark here. You wouldn’t happen to be auditioning would you? I’ve noticed that the ‘fans’ online who take the most umbrage at their previous DeLeos being criticised, are often the ones auditioning, and have a vested (and more than likely, delusional) interest in the band continuing with the same name.

And seriously, what kind of fan takes such apparent delight in trashing another fan OF THE SAME BAND? You’re trying to argue that you’re a bigger fan? Are you 12?

          • Ricky Johnson

Hes laying tracks February 9. Apparently he was “born to do this”.

            I kid you not.

          • Corndog

            Yep. What she said.

          • This Chic Over Here

            Boom!

          • Corndog

No, he isn’t, and nor is anyone else on this forum. If you want to talk shit about other posters and call them names then you need the comment section of Youtube. Won’t be tolerated here mate, so i’m deleting this post.

      • This Chic Over Here

You act like you were there for all of it as well… He’s entitled to his opinion just as much as you or anyone else is.

        • Chris Warren

          More bullshit, thanks for playing.

          • This Chic Over Here

How funny, you called another poster a narcissist, and then call bullshit on me saying everyone is entitled to an opinion. What a Richard Cranium! LOLOLOLOL!

          • This Chic Over Here

Here look in the mirror…”You are an idiot, and you are not a fan, you are a self absorbed narcissist, who thinks its all about YOU”

  • Eric Simons

Right after that performance, Tommy’s boss yelled at him to get back behind the bar because he had customers waiting.

    • — J —

But first he had to go score some coke and viagra from some strippers for one of the local lead singers that were playing that night.

  • Ryan

It’s just this simple. Without Weiland the Deleos aren’t successful. They have 3 failed attempts. Talk show. Army of Anyone. Stp with Chester. Weiland without the Deleo brothers was on fire with Velvet Revolver. Sure there great musicians but the bottom line is unless Weiland is there nobody really cares.

    • — J —

If Weiland was so on fire without the Deleos, then why didn’t anyone buy any of his solo albums?

It seems to me that Scott needed the Deleos or half of Guns n Roses making his music for anyone to care about him.

Hell, no one even bought that second Velvet Revolver record. So when was the last time Scott had a hit record without the Deleos? Contraband in 2003?

Army of Anyone at least had one hit song (Goodbye) in 2006/2007.

So in essence, the Deleos were successful longer than Weiland was.

      • Nikki

None of that is true. Libertad outsold Army of Anyone by what, three-to-one? Compare Scott’s solo output to the three other STP members. Add up all the sales from 12 Bar Blues, Velvet Revolver and Happy in Galoshes. Hell, you might as well throw in Blaster, Scott’s Christmas album, the covers album, and even Art of Anarchy, why not. Throw in his book sales too! Compare all of that output to the one Talk Show album and the one AofA album. Please share your figures and explain how the DeLeos were more successful without Scott, than he was without them. Using actual facts.

The lower photo may be “pre-show tea,” but the top one looks like post-show booze.
Tommy, you were an enabler and you must have known Scott had substance troubles.
