Original Smashing Pumpkins bassist D’arcy Wretzky has continued to communicate with her fans in the comments section of Alternative Nation on recent articles about the Pumpkins. The legendary bass player discussed how she has played more bass in the last two decades than some think, James Iha’s contributions to Smashing Pumpkins, and more.

Olga Stewart wrote a comment, “Maybe she stayed so long because she really wanted the band to succeed?

And so, maybe that’s why she was always so outspoken towards Billy?”

D’arcy responded, “absolutely.

I ALWAYS believed in the band … well … until Billy
decided that he wanted the Pumpkins to be Marilyn Manson.

I Love them & their music, but i’m not interested in becoming an imitation of anyone else.

It’s really such a relief to learn that there are a few people at least who
understand that, so thank you for speaking up.”

DanSwon commented, “I’m honestly amazed they are selling well for these venues. Considering the only real difference this time is James Iha is back, is he really that big of a pull? It’s not like he has any kind of distinctive sound or style, and had very little in the way of writing credits.”

D’arcy responded, “Billy isn’t known for giving much credit for nearly anything.

James really was (and i literally mean “was”) a vital factor in the sound and songs of most of the decent Pumpkin’s material pre-Machina.

‘Was’ because he had almost nothing to do w/anything on Billy’s newest fake reunion shenanigans.”

Bomb Cyclone commented, “Can anyone do something they haven’t done in nearly 20 years, as well as someone who’s been doing it recently? I’m sure he’s difficult, but trying to ease you in to it all seems reasonable from outside here.”

D’arcy responded, “I’ve been playing.

Billy knows it too.

and my shoulder is fine, thanks.”

“… and YES.

PLENTY of people can still physically, mentally, spiritually and emotionally do what they did 20 years ago.

(some can do it EVEN BETTER than they did 20 years ago)

… who put it into your head that i haven’t played in 20 years anyway?”
