Tool frontman Maynard James Keenan recently appeared on Sammy Hagar’s Rock and Roll Road Trip on AXS, and Hagar wanted to know if Keenan preferred Tool or A Perfect Circle, and Keenan refused to answer. The new Tool album release date is August 30th. Alternative Nation transcribed their comments.

Sammy Hagar: Tool or A Perfect Circle?

Maynard James Keenan: Yes.

Hagar: God or the Devil?

Keenan: Well the problem is they’re the same, the same thing, working together.

Hagar: Music or wine?

Keenan: Again, I don’t think you can separate them.

Maynard James Keenan has been in the news for his feud with Justin Bieber, and appearing to hit back at Bieber’s wife Hailey with a Tool song after she called him out.

CuriousTerran posted on the Tool Reddit, “I don’t really know Justin Bieber. I don’t pay much attention to celebrities besides Tool and a few others. I feel kind of bad for him though. If I had posted lyrics to my favorite Tool song on social media and one of the members of the band made fun of me I would be pretty bummed out.

I would get over it though. I guess Justin Bieber acts pretty dumb a lot of the time but so have I in the past quite a lot. And Tool’s music and lyrics certainly were an influence on my maturation. Maynard is an incredible vocalist and lyricist and I’m still pumped for this new album though. That is all…”

Grab_Hell_Again responded, “Newsflash: Maynard is a dick. He referred to his obsessive fans as [censored expletive] a few years ago.

While I understand the sentiment regarding people who take things too far, it’s still a real shitty thing to say on a couple different levels (at least).

It is what it is, I appreciate the man as an artist, and he’s also one hell of an entrepreneur (he does make a very good wine).

He isn’t the nicest or most patient guy on the planet, but he doesn’t have to be for me to enjoy his art.

What he said about Bieber doesn’t even register for me, I genuinely couldn’t care less.”
