Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist John Frusciante made his comeback on guitar in the studio for Dewa Budjana a couple of years ago, and Marco Minneman revealed that Frusciante recorded from home and never went into the studio.

Minneman told Ultimate-Guitar in a new interview, “I think there were actually two of the songs that he was involved with; on one he only sang though, and the other he just co-wrote or something.”

He added, “Yeah, it was great, but we didn’t meet there in person; it was more like a thing where a lot of people were involved, and some recorded stuff at home and sent it, as it usually is. But who was in the studio, was Jordan Rudess, Mohini Dei, Dewa Budjana, myself, and then Jimmy Haslip. And the guys who were recording remotely were John Frusciante and Mike Stern, also a great guitar player.”

Frusciante rejoined the Red Hot Chili Peppers in December, and played his first show back with the band in February at a tribute event, though Chad Smith was not present as it was a last minute performance. RHCP were scheduled to play festivals this spring and summer, but COVID-19 forced those shows to be canceled.

RHCP are expected to release a new album by sometime in 2021, their first record with Frusciante since 2006’s landmark double album Stadium Arcadium.
