Josh Klinghoffer hinted at making a guest appearance on a future Red Hot Chili Peppers album in a new Noisegate interview. Klinghoffer was asked if he saved RHCP riffs for his own material, like Dave Mustaine did after leaving Metallica and forming Megadeth.

“It wouldn’t be the same, and they won’t be using the songs we wrote together either. The Night Won’t Scare Me is perhaps the only one, as we definitely recorded an instrumental demo of it. There are some chord progressions that I showed them that I like a lot, and I think it’s a shame that they will never be something again. And there are also things that I can’t imagine without Anthony’s voice. Who knows, maybe someday I will get a special appearance on a record. I think he is one of the best singers and composers, because he continues to grow.

I don’t think the band grows as much in its sound as Anthony does as a singer and lyricist. The fact that he is an emotional communicator keeps the music alive and sophisticated. I can hear the songs from the two albums [I’m With You and The Getaway] in a disconnected way and think like ‘Ethiopia’ is one of the best songs that this band has made. I know that there are those who like the songs and those who don’t see much cultural significance in them either, but if people really stop to listen to Anthony, they will realize that it is the reason to keep the band alive and continue to attract new fans.

I even feel a little ‘blessed’ to be able to work with him for 10 years. They are all unique and incredible people. Being able to be around interesting and interested people is indescribable – even more so in a band with a great cultural impact. I can’t be more grateful, I wish everyone could have that kind of opportunity. I know that there are those who like the songs and those who don’t see much cultural significance in them either, but if people really stop to listen to Anthony, they will realize that it is the reason to keep the band alive and continue to attract new fans.”

Red Hot Chili Peppers fired Josh Klinghoffer last year to rehire John Frusciante. RHCP are currently recording a new album with Rick Rubin producing.
