Eddie Vedder honors Sinead O’Connor

Eddie Vedder pays tribute to Sinead O’Connor and The Pogues’ Shane MacGowan during show in Dublin with touching cover.

Pearl Jam kicked off their UK/European tour over the weekend in Dublin, Ireland and Vedder decided it would be the perfect time to honor two of the country’s most legendary late musicians: Shane MacGowan and Sinéad O’Connor, who both passed away within months of each other last year.

Vedder began his tribute with a story about MacGowan and Van Morrison before launching into a cover of Warren Zevon’s “Keep Me in Your Heart.”

Eddie Vedder tells story about Sinead and Shane

“I was thinking about Shane, and I was thinking about Sinéad, and I just wanted to play one,” he said.
Last month, during one of Pearl Jam’s home shows in Seattle, Wa, Vedder covered Nine Inch Nails’ “Hurt” and reflected on all of those from the Seattle music scene he’s lost over the years: “There are certain names that I so deeply wish were on the guestlist tonight, but we lost them too early and in ways that we could have never imagined. And damn it if I can’t stop thinking about them, but that’s a good thing too I guess.”
