The legendary Van Halen drummer Alex Van Halen had hosted a couple of book-signing events in October for his memoir, “Brothers.” In a video clip, he could be seen walking with the help of a cane during his book signing event on October 21st at Barnes & Noble Fifth Avenue in New York City. He could be also seen waving at the fans.
Alex previously told Rolling Stone that he would not be able to tour in any case as his mobility was limited due to a spinal injury that he suffered in 2022.
There were warning signs beforehand, but Alex’s spine finally gave way when he went to a shooting range with some friends in 2022. “The rifle kicked me on my ass,” Alex says, “and broke my back, instantly. And then I spent a year on the floor. Just staring at the ceiling. We became best friends.”
Alex hasn’t been able to play drums for the past couple of years, due to that spinal injury, but lately, he’s been able to hit practice pads again. More importantly, he could walk, but with a slight lurching limp and a cane, which is more than he could manage for a while. He also sought out an experimental stem-cell therapy with miraculous results.
In his deeply candid and insightful book, “Brothers,” Alex Van Halen presents a memoir unlike any other in the rock and roll genre. He shares his story of family, camaraderie, immigration, music, and loss, while also paying tribute to his late brother and bandmate, Eddie Van Halen, who was a legend in his own right.
“Brothers” takes readers on an intimate journey with tales of musical politics, capturing the fascinating story of a legendary band, its talent, and the passion behind their music. Throughout the drama, Alex’s portrayal of brotherhood, music, and enduring love shines brightly. This book provides a unique perspective on Eddie Van Halen’s life and death from the person who knew and loved him best.
