Alice In Chains legend Jerry Cantrell is describing his upcoming solo album, I Want Blood, as a major and intense work. Following the release of his new single, “Vilified,” which features Robert Trujillo, the Alice in Chains guitarist talked about what fans can expect from the album. He stated that it is a departure from his previous work, Brighten, showing a different and more confident approach. Cantrell believes this album features some of his best songwriting, playing, and singing. In fact, Alice In Chains and Metallica members are recording something as well.

“This record is a serious piece of work. It’s a motherf*cker. It’s hard, no doubt, and completely unlike ‘Brighten.’ And that’s what you want, to end up in a different place. There’s a confidence to this album. I think it’s some of my best songwriting and playing, and certainly some of my best singing.”

The album, Cantrell’s fourth solo LP, will be released on October 18 through Double J Music. It features guest appearances from Greg Puciato of Better Lovers and Guns N’ Roses bassist Duff McKagan, among others.

In addition to “Vilified,” the album includes eight other tracks: “Off the Rails,” “Afterglow,” “I Want Blood,” “Echoes of Laughter,” “Throw Me a Line,” “Let It Lie,” “Held Your Tongue,” and “It Comes.”

Jerry Cantrell previously teased his new project with a cryptic Instagram post. He shared a video with the caption, “As if you don’t know,” and included a link to his website. The site featured the same text and an ‘Enter’ button, which, when clicked, revealed an image of Cantrell with multiple arms. Shortly after, Cantrell revealed more details about his new project on X, announcing that his new single, “Vilified,” would be released on Thursday, July 25, at 9 PM PT / Midnight ET.

Cantrell’s most recent solo album, Brighten, was released in October 2021. This album marked his first solo effort in 19 years, separate from his work with Alice In Chains. He co-produced the album with Tyler Bates and Paul Figueroa. Cantrell is currently on a North American tour with Bush and Candlebox, which began on July 26 at Hayden Homes Amphitheater in Bend, Oregon, and will continue through mid-September.
