Queen guitar legend Brian May recently opened up on Aerosmith deciding to retire from touring and praised the band for their legendary career.
Aerosmith has announced that the band is officially retiring from touring. They announced in an extensive statement on social media Friday that they are canceling the rest of what would’ve been their farewell tour as Steven Tyler struggles to recover from a vocal injury he suffered last year.
Brian May opens up on Aerosmith
Several classic bands and artists will call it a day in the future. However, Brian May said in a message on his social media, “All things must pass.”
Brian also couldn’t hide his sadness over the matter. “This has brought a tear to my eye,” he admits. Nonetheless, the guitarist also thanked Aerosmith for their lengthy career by offering:
“Aerosmith have been a huge part of my life, as they have been for millions of other rock fans. Steve Tyler stands as one [of] the greatest vocalists and frontmen of all time — and it’s heartbreaking that his extraordinary voice has been so damaged. We all send our love and prayers for your recovery, Steve.”
Aerosmith have been delaying their shows due to Steven Tyler’s vocal issues. Last year, it was revealed that his injuries were way more serious than initially thought.
Aerosmith first started the Peace Out farewell tour in May of 2023 but played just three shows before pushing dates back after Tyler injured his Larynx. The band announced the new show dates back in April. They had originally planned to continue the tour in September.
The news of their decision to quit touring came on August 2 this year, with the band revealing that it was a “necessary” decision.
Brian agrees with this sentiment and, although sad about it, he’s very supportive of Aerosmith. He continued:
“It’s also typical of the pure class of the band that they have made and broadcast this bold decision in such style. The career of Aerosmith is truly something to celebrate forever. All things must pass — but the inspiring work of Aerosmith will live on — along with the memories of truly one of the most awesome bands to ever hit a stage.”
It has come to light that aside from the vocal injury, Tyler is also facing a lawsuit in which he has been accused of sexually assaulting a minor in the Seventies. The plaintiff Julia Misley has alleged that Tyler convinced her mother to grant him guardianship over her so he could take Misley with him across state lines and have a sexual relationship with her. However, Tyler has denied the claims. A second woman subsequently sued him about a year later, though that suit was dismissed earlier this year.
