Bruce Springsteen Adds Security After Tour Threats
Bruce Springsteen’s current “Land of Hope and Dreams” tour has moved into heavier security measures after members of his camp say threats have escalated while he delivers pointed political remarks onstage about President Donald Trump and current U.S. policies.
Springsteen has labelled the Trump administration “corrupt, incompetent and treasonous” during his shows, and his longtime E Street Band guitarist Steven Van Zandt said the band has seen “a lot of threats, death threats” that have increased on this run, syracuse.com reported.
Mr. Van Zandt said the heightened posture is tied to the tour’s “very specific political theme,” adding that the FBI and other authorities have been monitoring concerns and that the added precautions are focused on keeping crowds safe. He did not share details about the nature of the threats.
The security discussion follows Springsteen’s repeated onstage speeches framing the shows as a call for democracy and opposition to authoritarianism, a theme that has been central to the tour’s U.S. dates. Alternative Nation has previously reported on the band’s posture in coverage of Springsteen boosting tour security after threats as the run continued.
The U.S. leg of “Land of Hope and Dreams” began March 31 in Minneapolis, with concerts scheduled through May 30 in Philadelphia. With the tour’s messaging continuing to draw sharp responses online and in political circles, Springsteen’s team appears set to maintain the additional security measures for the remainder of the dates.
