Bruce Springsteen Shares Mother’s Day Tribute
Bruce Springsteen marked Mother’s Day with a personal message remembering his late mother, Adele Springsteen, sharing a family reflection that underscored her role in shaping his love of music and dance.
Springsteen wrote that “the music would be playing when she walked in the door − and the dancing never really stopped,” adding that Mother’s Day is a time to celebrate “the ones who keep us moving, lift us up and remind us to carry on and step onto the floor when the music calls,” Asbury Park Press reported.
Adele Springsteen died on Jan. 31, 2024, at age 98, and Springsteen has previously credited her and her sisters Dora Kirby and Eda Urbelis with encouraging his early musical passion. In his memoir “Born to Run,” he described a home where Top 40 radio was constantly playing, and recalled being introduced to hit records from Elvis Presley onward each morning.
Springsteen has also spoken publicly about dancing with his mother at shows over the years, including arena dates with the E Street Band and holiday concerts in Asbury Park. Their last public dance was reported to be in 2018 at the Wonder Bar in Asbury Park as the Eddie Testa Band played “Some Kind of Wonderful” and The Beatles’ “Eight Days a Week.”
The Mother’s Day post is the latest example of Springsteen mixing public moments with personal history, following stories that have surfaced over the years about his relationship with American music icons, including when he once tried to crash Graceland in an effort to meet Elvis.
Springsteen’s tribute arrived as attention remains high around his archival legacy in New Jersey, with memorabilia tied to his career increasingly being preserved and displayed. For fans, the message offered a rare, direct window into the family memories that continue to inform his work.
