Rita Wilson Shares Bruce Springsteen Songwriting Tip
Rita Wilson has revealed a piece of advice she received from Bruce Springsteen as she continues promoting her latest record. Speaking in New York City ahead of her new album’s release, Wilson said Springsteen helped ease her doubts about starting to write songs later in life, offering reassurance that creativity does not have an expiry date.
At a 92NY event on April 28 titled “Sound of a Woman: Rita Wilson in Conversation with Demi Moore,” Wilson recalled asking Springsteen what made her think she could begin writing now when he had been writing all his life; she said he replied, “Because, Rita, creativity is time independent,” People reported.
Wilson, who released her sixth studio album Sound of a Woman on May 1, said the project has felt “scary” because she considers herself a private person and believes releasing such personal material requires stepping into a more vulnerable public space. She also said she has made peace with the fact that not everyone will connect with her work, adding that if even “one person” relates to it, that is “enough.”
Springsteen’s comments to Wilson arrive as he remains in the spotlight for his own high-profile statements, including Alternative Nation’s recent report that he slammed the “corrupt” Trump administration during a public moment that sparked further debate around the rock icon’s activism.
For Wilson, the exchange serves as a reminder that creative reinvention can happen at any stage, and she framed her new album as part of a wider decision to challenge what she called limiting personal and societal beliefs.
