Chris Cornell’s brother Peter recently wrote on Instagram about watching Chris perform on The Tonight Show last year, and recently seeing his ex-wife Susan Silver. He also described some of his final in person conversations with his brother, including Chris’ nerves regarding the performance.

“This day last year. Chris was performing on Fallon and doing some stuff at the U.N. I’m always down for any excuse to go to NYC, so there we were. He was nervous about the performance for some reason and asked that nobody come to the show (me included). Hard to imagine that guy being nervous.

But, we were hanging at the house having lunch and he said ‘you’re coming tonight right?’ He of course just crushed it. Matt Cameron and Brendan O’Brien were sitting in and it was..well you know. How could I have known it was the last time I would see him? I am forever grateful for that trip, for that photo. And grateful I got to spend HIS last bday with him. Cherish, cherish the moments! We can’t know what tomorrow brings! I miss him everyday. Particularly today. The memories dance loudly before my eyes. Much Love Brother!”

He also wrote in another post, “Just when I feel like I’m too old to invest any emotion in my own birthday. The doorbell rang late (late for us I think it was around 8:30pm) and there was Susan Silver standing at our door with flowers and balloons and birthday wishes for this old dog. I didn’t even know she was in town (pretty sure AMY did and it was a covert mission between the two of them). 30 years that Susan has been part of my family.

I’ve known her for 30 years. It’s odd to be old enough to say something like that. She and my Brother met in ‘85 and here she is yet again showing up for me and my family. My family. At dinner tonight my little family was toasting me and Goose’s toast was: ‘cheers to the greatest man who loves us all. The greatest swim partner. We all love him. The old so-and-so!’ Out of the mouths of babes!!! Laughter and tears followed. This old so-and-so must have done something right along the way. Thank you all for a great birthday!”
