September is National Suicide Prevention Month. If you are dealing with mental health issues, you can call the Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-8255, or enter their live chat. You can also donate to Music For Relief’s One More Light fund.

Chris Cornell’s brother Peter wished Chris’ former bodyguard Martin Kirsten happy birthday today on Facebook.

“On the other side of the world, it’s tomorrow. Which means…

Happy Birthday Martin!!!

My Friend. My Brother. From the four of us,

We love you!!!”

Kirsten responded, “Thank you bro! Miss you guys. See you next week.”

Peter wore a hat that showed Kirsten’s security company in a recent Facebook video. Kirsten worked for Chris Cornell from 2016 until his death in May 2017. On that fateful night, Kirsten kicked down Cornell’s hotel room door in an attempt to save his life, and then discovered his body.

Kirsten told police at the time.

“I came to the room and was unable to get (in) because of the interior latch. I went back to my room and called for hotel security to come and open the door. They refused, saying that it wasn’t my room, although I told them that he was my employer and that I had a key.”

“I told Vicky that they wouldn’t come open the door and she told me to kick it open. I did. Upon entry, I found the bedroom door locked. I called the hotel operator and told her that I needed security to open the bedroom door. They refused again, and I told them that I’m going to damage the hotel room and (they) need to send security, call 911 and call an ambulance.”

Kirsten paid tribute to his former employer in June by taking part in Peter Cornell’s push up challenge to raise awareness for suicide prevention.
