Over on the Ask Reddit subreddit, fans of Chris Rock gave their reviews of his first standup show since the infamous slap at the Acadamy Awards this past week. One user would state: No talk of Will Smith, still tore the house down. He’s got another show at 1030. When he walked out the f***ing building shook. 10-minute standing O. He said, “c’mon people let me do the show.”
Continuing the user said: “The guy’s material is brilliant. Comic genius. Talked politics as if he was possessed by George Carlin. The whole thing was a comedic masterpiece. Covid, Ukraine, Trump, Hillary. No holds barred no one was spared. Tonight wasn’t for the squeamish. Fucking hilarious. Comedic gold. Chris Rock is a comedy legend and a class act. 1st show at the Wilbur. Thank you Chris you’re a class act.”
Whereas this user had the following advice for Rock after his Oscars appearance. “If I were him I would acknowledge Questlove and his documentary’s win. I asked all my friends who won the oscar that Rock was about to hand out before the slap and no one knew. It’s sad how after all that time and work they put into Summer of Soul and all anyone is talking about is the slap.”
