Courtney Love discussed Kurt Cobain and Eddie Vedder’s rivalry in a NatGeo TV interview.

“With Nirvana, I was sitting with my former bandmate, who had a band at that time called Babes in Toyland, and another former bandmate, who had a band at that time called L7, and we heard the first demo which had Smells Like Teen Spirit, In Bloom, Lithium, and Come As You Are. I was furious at the two of them, because I was like, that could have been us, that could have been all chicks. We were great friends, but great rivals.

I think there was a rivalry involved in the Northwest as well, definitely there was a rivalry between the boys. Chris Cornell, Mark Arm, Eddie Vedder, and Kurt, there was a rivalry. There was a rivalry to have your voice be heard, and be successful, but to have your voice be heard. I remember when Pearl Jam beat Nirvana onto the cover of Time, and that pissed Kurt off, let me tell you.”

Courtney Love discussed 90’s Grunge hits in a recent podcast interview with Anna Faris. Alternative Nation transcribed the quotes.

“I listen to Lithium [on Sirius XM], which is like all of the 90’s songs and a lot of them are actually about me, which is interesting. There’s so many Smashing Pumpkins song about me, there’s a Bush song about me. I remember I used to date this movie star in the 90’s and we were listening to KROQ, and there were like 6 songs in a row, and 5 of them were about me. I told him that and he was like, ‘No they aren’t!’ I was like, ‘Yeah they are! I dated every one of those guys dude!’ He was like, ‘You’re such a slut!'”

Love also discussed why she views herself as ‘the messiah’ and a female Jesus Christ when she performs live.

“Last year I toured with Lana Del Ray, after playing a brief stint of playing in 2 to 3,000 seaters. I didn’t really like them, they’re not as fun as 10 to 20,000 seaters. You get a bigger vibe, if you have a messianic complex. I think I’m the messiah, and I want you to drink my Kool-Aid when I’m on stage. A shot of tequila, and I think I’m Jesette [a female Jesus].”
