Dave Grohl Says Springsteen Snubbed Foo Fighters
Dave Grohl has shared a self-deprecating story about discovering Bruce Springsteen was in the building at a Foo Fighters concert — only to learn the rock icon was not there for the headliners. In the anecdote, Grohl described feeling intense pressure at the idea of performing in front of Springsteen, before the night took a turn that left him embarrassed but relieved.
Recounting the moment, Grohl said he was told Springsteen had arrived at a Foo Fighters show in Vancouver, Canada, and he admitted to “paralysing nerves” at the thought of playing for “this legendary showman,” adding that he was “Frozen with fear,” Far Out Magazine reported.
Grohl said the situation flipped when he discovered Springsteen had actually come to see the opening band, not Foo Fighters. He described it as a “devastating humiliation,” while also conceding that it meant he was “off the hook” because “The Boss’s ears were saved to hear another day.”
The story has resurfaced at a time when Springsteen has remained a high-profile public figure beyond music, with recent attention also focused on his political commentary, including Alternative Nation’s report that he was labelled a “hypocrite” over an anti-Trump rant that sparked online backlash.
Grohl did not identify which act Springsteen had come to watch, but he framed the experience as a reminder not to assume the most famous person in the room is there to see you — even when you’re fronting one of the biggest rock bands of the modern era.
