Bruce Springsteen References Comey Seashells Onstage
Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band mixed pointed commentary with marathon rock energy during their Tuesday, May 5 show at UBS Arena in Elmont, New York, where Springsteen used a brief onstage moment to warn fans about “seashells” ahead of summer. The remark came as part of a nearly three-hour performance that also leaned into the band’s ongoing “No Kings” theme on the current run.
Springsteen told the crowd, “Don’t go to the beach and play with any seashells,” referencing the recent indictment of former FBI director James Comey over a social media post showing seashells arranged as the numbers “86 47,” Asbury Park Press reported.
The comment was delivered as a sharp aside rather than a full speech, but it underscored how Springsteen has continued to weave topical references into his banter between songs while keeping the set focused on extended performances with the E Street Band.
Earlier on the tour, Springsteen’s between-song remarks have also drawn attention, including when he called out “treason” during a concert in another stop on the run.
At UBS Arena, the seashell line landed as a cautionary joke with a clear political edge, adding another flashpoint to a tour that has balanced big-stage showmanship with contemporary references. The Long Island show continued the band’s pattern of delivering lengthy sets while Springsteen uses select moments to frame the night’s themes in real time.
