Greg Kurstin and Dave Grohl returned with Hanukkah Sessions ‘Live at Largo’ in Los Angeles on December 4. For the last two years, Foo Fighters frontman and eight-time Grammy-winning producer Greg Kurstin celebrated the Jewish Festival of Lights with a series they dubbed Hanukkah Sessions, in which they covered eight songs by prominent Jewish artists — from a death-metal rendition of Lisa Loeb’s “Stay” to a bangin’ cover of the Ramones’ “Blitzkrieg Bop.”

This year, they filmed the series at a live show at The Coronet in Los Angeles that featured a smattering of special guests, and they’re rolling out footage one song per night for the next eight nights. On December 18th, they kicked off the series with a cover of Blood, Sweat & Tears’ “Spinning Wheel” that features none other than director Judd Apatow on the mic.

Grohl sat behind the kit, Kurstin on the keys, and they had backing band filling in the gaps — making this the most fleshed-out Hannukah Sessions song yet.

Last year the pair wrapped up the second annual of the show with a cover of a KISS classic. Kurstin and the Foo Fighters frontman spent the last eight days covering songs by Jewish artists – one for each day of the Festival Of Lights – and finished it with a rendition of the band’s 1975 hit ‘Rock And Roll All Nite’. Other covers the duo had performed as part of this last year’s Hanukkah Sessions included Billy Joel‘s ‘Big Shot’, Van Halen‘s ‘Jump’ and Barry Manilow‘s ‘Copacabana’. Grohl’s daughter, Violet, also made a guest appearance on vocals for a cover of Amy Winehouse‘s ‘Take The Box’.
