Dave Grohl cooks for Pantera guitarist’s girlfriend

Dave Grohl united with late Pantera guitarist Dimebag Darrell’s girlfriend Rita Haney for her birthday party on Saturday night. Grohl cooked BBQ, as he has done in recent years for charity. Grohl was friends with Dimebag Darrell, and is a huge fan of Pantera.

Grohl and Dime were cut from the same cloth. Back in the ’90s, when Foo Fighters were breaking big and Pantera were carrying the flag for metal, the two bands crossed paths constantly. Grohl has never hidden the fact that he was blown away by Pantera, or that he admired Dime’s larger-than-life personality just as much as his guitar playing. Their friendship was rooted in laughter, guitar shredding, and that Texas hospitality Dime loved to share.

Rita Haney carries on Dimebag’s legacy

That bond has carried through to Rita, who has spent the past two decades keeping Dime’s memory alive for fans worldwide since his tragic death. Dave Grohl stepping in to make her birthday special was yet another great tribute to his good friend.

Grohl did it his way: behind a grill. His love of barbecue isn’t a gimmick. He’s cooked meals for firefighters, shelters, and countless charities, turning ribs and brisket into classic Good Guy Dave moments. Saturday night, those same skills went toward feeding friends and celebrating Rita.

It was the kind of moment that reminded everyone why Grohl remains so beloved despite his recent controversies. He doesn’t just honor rock history on stage — he honors it in backyards, with friends, with food, and with his big heart.
