Eddie Vedder joins Jane’s Addiction cover at Ohana
Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder has been running the Ohana Festival in Dana Point, CA for nearly a decade now, and on Friday he yet again joined some of his favorite artists onstage prior to his headlining set. Vedder joined Makua onstage for a cover of Jane’s Addiction’s classic “Been Caught Stealing” providing backing vocals.
Perry Farrell himself launched the Lollapalooza festival, and Vedder has become a successful festival head himself with Ohana, so the tribute was fitting, though it’s unfortunate we’ll never see Jane’s headline Ohana after their breakup last year.
Vedder also introduced former Pixies bassist Kim Deal prior to her headlining set, with a beautiful message to fans, saying he likes to see legends ‘alive’ and still with us. Deal performed a crowd pleasing set, including “Gigantic” and “Cannonball,” with Vedder watching from the side of the stage in all his fanboy glory. Vedder joined Lukas Nelson onstage for an emotional rendition of “Just Breathe.”
Eddie also introduced Stereophonics, saying he met them at a teenage cancer charity event in Europe with The Who. He said, “We met working for a good cause.” Stereophonics provided a powerful set, blending their Pearl Jam influenced hard rock with their Beatlesque ballads. Garbage and Kings of Leon brought the hits with their sets followed by Eddie Vedder’s own headlining set, capping off one of Ohana’s strong days ever.
