Last month, Josh Freese revealed that after two years with Foo Fighters the band had decided to part ways with him, with Dave Grohl and co. allegedly telling him that they will be “going in a different direction with their drummer.”
Despite his firing, Freese has remained hopeful about his career. Aside from being a member of A Perfect Circle and The Vandals (and having previously played with an extremely long list of bands and artists including Devo, Nine Inch Nails, and Sting), Freese is a highly sought after drummer with seemingly no shortage of gigs.
In a post to his Instagram stories on Tuesday (June 3rd), Freese hinted at his latest, secret, project, revealing that he has been asked to lay down drums for an undisclosed band.
In the heavily redacted video – captioned “Breaking the news to my wife that I’m going out of town again on a top secret session” – the drummer can be seen explaining the gig to his wife via phone call.
“I didn’t talk to you about it first,” he said. “I kind of had to make a split decision and it’s only 48 hours and it’s good money. It’s a recording session in New York.”
“There’s a Vandals thing. Because I’m going to New York with them, but then I’m coming back and then going back to New York,” Freese explained.
Freese continued, censoring the several artists he names in the phone conversation: “It’s for … is doing a thing. And he’s got guys from …’s band are on the session. And … is playing piano. And it’s kind of a big deal. It’s actually for the … and they’re covers of …”
At this time, details of this project remain under wraps, and it is unclear when whatever it is he is working on will officially be announced.
