Foo Fighters Member Reveals What Dave Grohl ‘Raped’ From Him: ‘I Was Doomed’

Former Foo Fighters drummer William Goldsmith has been in the news recently for heavily criticizing Dave Grohl, and claiming he played a role in Sunny Day Real Estate never releasing their fifth album, though he later clarified his statement with additional reasoning, while still throwing shade at Grohl. This new story has led to Foo Fighters fans resurfacing an interview that Goldsmith did on The Trap Set with Joe Wong in 2016 that was not circulated at all in the press at the time.

Alternative Nation transcribed his comments about working on The Colour and the Shape.

“There was a voice in my head saying, ‘Something’s not right here.’ Gregg Keplinger, he came out to help me with the drums, getting the drum sounds for that session, and he’ll tell you, I was doomed from the start. Because when we were getting the drum sounds, and dude, Gregg Keplinger does not have a hard time getting drum sounds. Every record I’ve ever worked on with any other producer, and Gregg is working on the drum sounds, they’re always very excited and happy about his approach.

This guy Gil Norton, no matter what we did, where we put the microphones, no matter how much we tuned the drums, he was never happy with how the drums sounded. Kep was just like, ‘Dude, I don’t understand what the hell is going on here.’ I think from the get go the producer wanted Dave to play drums on the record, I think Dave wanted to play drums on the record, I think the people at the label wanted Dave to play drums on the record, I think everybody wanted Dave to play drums on the record.

That’s fine, but I wish they had decided that, or told me that, rather than drag me through the coals for three weeks 13 hours a day, working my ass off, and then accomplishing the thing, and then having all that effort completely just raped from you.”

    Jesus..Enough with this guy already..

Seriously, I have been hearing this story for years.

I think it’s time to appoint a Special Prosecutor to investigate Dave Grohl for coordinating and launching attempts to kill and rape William Goldsmith.

  • B-town nobody

Could this guy cry any more? We get it. You hate Dave Grohl . You feel cheated. He is to blame for all of the ills in your life, as well as climate change, erectile dysfunction, irritable bowel syndrome, gun violence, and any future economic recessions.

How many times is this same story going to be packaged in a new way?

  • Matt Byron

Dude why are you guys giving this fucking loser a platform?? I understand he’s frustrated but no one would even know who the fuck he is anymore if he didn’t have the ability to reference one of the biggest rock bands in history as part of his resume. this is literally like if one of your friends started whining about a 15 year old break up with a person that was way out of his league to begin with. this guy even said it didn’t feel right it didn’t feel right he knew something was off he was worried he shouldn’t have done it….but…. Sure enough of course he fucking did, like any one of us would have.

Really it was interesting for the first 45 Google alerts about “foo fighters member says….” butbut it’s getting a little bit old with this dude. Please find something better to write about anything. write a story about me trying to get into the industry and totally failing and writing music that’s mediocre– that would probably be more interest than this bullshit to people. Make me feel like an asshole for talking shit about the drummer from a great band like sunny day real estate. People would love that. Anything but more of this shit.

I LOVE Sunny Day Real Estate. Their first two albums are amazing. I also respect the hell out of Dave Grohl. When I heard he snagged Sunny Days rhythm section forever ago I flipped. Goldsmith and Mendel are still cool I think. And I can see where he’s coming from, having made great Sunny Day records then having all your creativity stripped away in a new project would suck. I get it. At the same time, dude, get over it. It’s probably because of how popular they are, and Goldsmith holds a grudge. He’s a great drummer, let that be the driving force. The Fire Theft album was really good. Dave seems like an honest guy, somebody call somebody already. Squash it. No one likes a whiner, wrong or right.

  • Schploink!

but it was raped from him

It seems like the Foo Fighters needed a drummer, he signed up for the gig, but then it didn’t work out. Given the drummer that came after him has stayed with the band for 20 years, and cemented his roll as the drummer, one has to think that Goldsmith wasn’t the fit they were looking for in the band.

Seems pretty pissed about it. I guess maybe I would. You get a chance to be in rock band with pretty high exposure, then it fizzles out and goes away. Then you watch Taylor Hawkins get to own it for two decades… not easy 🙂

  • Frances Powell

Far out, move on. You weren’t good enough, at the time. Let it go. Only a whinging twat would use “raped” in that context.

  • Dan Keeble

Taylor Hawkins has this issue during every album recording session…….oh wait..

    Pete Best on Line 1.
