Green Day have pushed back their upcoming concert in Hersheypark Stadium.
Green Day issues statement
The band announced in an Instagram Story post that frontman Billie Joe Armstrong lost his voice after Friday night’s show in Philadelphia. They were scheduled to play Hersheypark Stadium in Pennsylvania on Saturday night.
“We’re so sorry to be missing you tonight, but here’s the good news – the rescheduled date is September 2, so hold on to your tickets,” the band wrote. “We will see you then!”
The concert at Hersheypark is part of their “The Saviors” Tour, along with The Smashing Pumpkins, Rancid, and The Linda Lindas.
On its website Saturday, Hersheypark Stadium confirmed: “Tickets will automatically be valid for the new date. If you can’t make the new date, follow the instructions below for refunds.”
On its “Saviors” tour, the band is celebrating the 30th anniversary of their breakout album Dookie and the 20th anniversary of their critically acclaimed American Idiot. Supporting acts for the tour include Smashing Pumpkins, Rancid and The Linda Lindas. It has not yet been announced which band will appear with Green Day on Sept. 2.
To celebrate the new album, the band hit the road with an eight-and-a-half-week tour across North America. The second leg of Green Day’s international Saviors Tour will start in January 2025 in South Africa with openers The Offspring and Fokofpolisiekar. (The band’s European tour ran from May 30 to June 29.)
This marks the second time this season a concert at the venue has been postponed. Stevie Nicks was to perform at Hersheypark Stadium on June 15, but a member of her band took ill hours before the show was to start. That concert has been rescheduled for Sept. 28.
Meanwhile, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg recently proved again that he is a huge Green Day fan.
