Greta Van Fleet drummer Danny Wagner’s mother Lori discussed how the band’s original drummer failing to show up on time to a rehearsal is what gave Danny an opportunity to join the band in a new The First Ladies of Comedy podcast interview. Alternative Nation transcribed her comments. Greta Van Fleet singer Josh Kiszka threatening to quit was revealed last week.

Lori Wagner: He and Sam had been in school together since Kindergarten and in middle school, they were gonna do a talent show together. So Daniel was going over to his house to practice and the band just happened to be out in the garage practicing. One day he went over to practice and the drummer wasn’t there.

Daniel had played electric guitar his entire life but they had a guitarist so he sat behind the drums and he started playing with them. Daniel taught himself how to play the drums just by being in the band. (Greta Van Fleet being ‘bullied’ at school was also revealed)

Hosts: Wow.

Host # 1: He didn’t know how to play the drums?

Wagner: Nope, none of them had any lessons whatsoever with the instruments they play.

Greta Van Fleet are scheduled to tour in South America with Metallica next year, though that tour may be in jeopardy after James Hetfield entering rehab has led to the cancelation of Metallica’s Australian tour with Slipknot that was just weeks away. Hetfield has a bit more time to recover though for next year’s tour, so we’ll have to wait and see. A Greta Van Fleet member hilariously going nuts at Disneyland was recently detailed as well.
