Former Guns N’ Roses drummer Bryan Mantia, better known by his stage name Brain, was interviewed on a new interview with Guns N’ Roses podcast Appetite for Distortion, Brain called out Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine for his bizarre Super Bowl halftime show performance. Alternative Nation reporter Mike Mazzarone transcribed Brain’s comments.

Brando: They should have had you perform instead of Maroon 5

Brain: [Laughing] Yeah, the ending kinda took me, when he removed his shirt and showed his tattoos, I was like: “That’s the death of everything right there.”

Brain: I don’t know, whatever, I’m sure he’s a great guy but it took the ‘fun’ out of music for me. [Brando laughs]

Brain: He’s so fake, like ‘look at at the tattoos I got!’, so horrible.

Brando: No, I think it’s hilarious. For some reason I know he’s going to take his shirt off because that’s what he does. He did it when he hosted SNL and I’m like ‘I don’t know, man’ because I obviously wanted Guns N’ Roses to play the halftime show for years and it’s like, come on!

Brain: Oh no, I was wondering when they were going to get asked. Yeah, they need to do it, that would be sick but to have that and that’s it, obviously, it’s not the first time you’ve seen a tattoo at a halftime show but when Iggy Pop takes his shirt off and he looks like a lizard, it’s bad. When you’re kinda just a cheeseball on TV, I don’t know, sorry. I’m sure he’s a great guy. Listen to “Ep. 110 – Brain returns to talk Chinese Democracy, new music, and tennis” on Spreaker.
