Late last year, Journey announced that they will be embarking on a farewell tour – which kicks-off on February 28 in Hershey, PA. While the tour was widely expected to feature the band’s current lineup, new speculation suggests that longtime lead singer Arnel Pineda may not take part after all.
The speculation follows comments Pineda made on an Instagram post by Journey drummer Deen Castronovo.
In the post, Castonovo shared a photo of himself with bandmates Neal Schon, Todd Jensen, and Jason Derlatka from the band’s halftime performance at the San Francisco 49ers game on December 28, 2025.
“Good times at Levi’s Stadium last night with my brothers from Journey at the San Francisco 49ers game,” the drummer wrote.
Pineda’s response, however, quickly caught fans’ attention.
“Congratulations and have fun on your 2026 Farewell Tour,” Pineda commented.
The use of the word “your” prompted concern among fans, with many questioning whether Pineda would be absent from the upcoming tour.
“Arnel, you should be there too. Please, reconsider it,” one fan replied. Another expressed frustration over the possibility of a lineup change, writing: “If Arnel isn’t going to be there, I’ve got some front row tickets to sell.”
While no official announcement has been made, Pineda was notably absent from Journey’s 49ers halftime performance last month, reportedly due to a scheduling conflict. Castronovo stepped in to handle lead vocals for the appearance.
Two weeks earlier, both Pineda and keyboardist/guitarist Jonathan Cain were also missing from Journey’s guest appearance on The Voice.
At the time, Schon addressed speculation surrounding their absence, writing on Twitter/X: “Just so there’s no confusion this is no way is meant to make it look like Jonathan or Arnel are not in the band any longer – They could not make ‘The Voice.’ I’m simply going there with Deen Todd and Jason to promote our upcoming tour and have some fun!”
