Bruce Kulick Details Open Heart Surgery Diagnosis
Former KISS guitarist Bruce Kulick has shared a personal health update, revealing the underlying heart condition that led to his recent open-heart surgery. Kulick said he is now recovering at home after spending more than a week in hospital, describing the experience as difficult but noting gradual improvements as the days pass.
Kulick said his operation was prompted by a congenital issue in his aortic valve that had become dangerously advanced, he described a bicuspid aortic valve progressing toward “critical” severe stenosis.
In his statement, Kulick said he chose to address the valve problem before it could trigger a life-threatening event, adding that ignoring it “would have been foolish and dangerous.” He also thanked his wife, Lisa, for supporting him during recovery and told fans that their messages, prayers and encouragement have been meaningful as he works through the process.
Kulick’s update follows recent discussion within the KISS camp after Gene Simmons reacted to a KISS member’s heart surgery, highlighting how closely fans have been tracking the health of musicians tied to the band’s legacy.
Kulick, who played as KISS’s lead guitarist from 1984 to 1996, said his focus is now on healing and returning to normal life step by step. His openness about the diagnosis and recovery offers a reminder that even veteran performers can face serious medical setbacks, and that early intervention can be crucial when a condition turns severe.
