Sting Admits He’s Unsure About Retiring
Sting has acknowledged he is still wrestling with the idea of stepping away from music, telling interviewers he doesn’t feel fully prepared for retirement and would rather keep working while he remains able to perform.
In a recent interview, CBS reported that Sting said he enjoys working and is not sure he has “developed that skill to just sit and do nothing,” adding that he may be “afraid” of what retirement would look like.
The former Police frontman also suggested he wants to continue as long as his health allows, explaining that he hopes he’ll eventually have enough perspective to know when it’s time to stop. He framed that moment as being able to say he has “done enough” and then step back from the demands of touring and creating.
Sting’s comments arrive as fans continue to track lingering tensions and history from his Police era, including moments like Stewart Copeland taking a subtle dig at Sting’s songwriting in a separate recent discussion.
For now, Sting’s remarks underline that the idea of retirement is less about a firm end date and more about whether he can imagine a life without the daily pull of writing, rehearsing, and performing. Until he feels ready for that shift, he appears inclined to keep moving forward with his career.
