The recent advancements in AI technology have given rise to tons of wild scenarios where the voice and singing style of Kurt Cobain could be not only replicated, but put directly into a lot of different classic songs.

A Youtube channel, AI Remixes, has been pumping out AI songs for a few weeks now and doing it amazingly by using a combination of audio samples and machine learning algorithms. AI then can generate a new recording of the Pixies’ classic song “Where Is My Mind” with Cobain’s vocals.

To some, this may sound like an exciting prospect, especially for fans of both Nirvana and the Pixies. Both bands were influential figures in the alternative rock scene of the 1990s, and the idea of a collaboration between the two is mind blowing.

Overall, the song is really good and sounds like Kurt Cobain covering the Pixies. It’s pretty straight to the point in that respect. Nothing is robotic at all.

There are valid ethical and artistic concerns that arise with the use of AI to generate music in this way. It could be argued that using an AI-generated recording to replicate the voice of a deceased artist is a form of exploitation or even disrespect. It could also be seen as a way to capitalize on nostalgia and avoid taking creative risks, rather than pushing the boundaries of what is possible in music, all of which is apparent in the comment section of these videos.

While the idea of AI making Kurt Cobain the singer of the Pixies may be intriguing, it also raises valid concerns. The question of whether AI-generated music can ever truly replace the creativity and emotional depth of human musicians remains an open one. It is important to carefully consider the implications and consequences of using AI in music production, and to continue to explore new and innovative ways of utilizing technology while preserving the integrity and authenticity of the creative process.
