Soundgarden drummer Matt Cameron shared an alternate final Soundgarden setlist with KEXP in honor of Chris Cornell.

KEXP wrote on Twitter:

“Paying tribute to @chriscornell on his birthday with songs and an alternate @soundgarden set list by #MattCameron airing at 4pm @kexp.”

“Comin up at 4 @soundgarden’s #MattCameron’s alternate set list made in commemoration of @chriscornell Tune in @kexp as we celebrate his life.”

“Tune in now to hear a setlist Matt Cameron wrote for @soundgarden’s final show, on today @chriscornell’s birthday. http://KEXP.ORG.”

Cameron said, “I wanted to share the last set list I wrote for Soundgarden on that fateful night in Detroit, May 17, 2017. Chris and I were trading off writing sets for our last tour. Back in the day, Chris wrote all sets, but since 2010, I was writing more than I ever had and enjoying it tremendously.

Whenever I completed a set, I sent it to Chris first for approval. For the Detroit show, Chris decided to write the set and that’s what we ended up playing that night. To commemorate his birthday, I was hoping KEXP could play my setlist. Thank you for years of support. I share this with you, our favorite hometown station.”

DJ comments:

Chris Cornell remembering the writing process: “I have a vivid memory of staring out the window, looking at the countryside, and feeling pent-up. I never wrote any of the words down, but I somehow remembered them. When we finished the tour and Soundgarden returned home to Seattle, I picked up a guitar and tried to come up with music that I felt matched the essence of that song. I wanted to create this hillbilly Black Sabbath crossover that I’d never heard before. I thought that would be cool and possible. I thought, “If anyone can do it, Soundgarden can do it.”

Today, we’re paying tribute to Chris Cornell on what would have been his birthday, with an alternative set list created by Matt Cameron for Soundgarden’s final show.
