While many in the press have been reporting about Chester Bennington’s career with Linkin Park, he also was Stone Temple Pilots’ lead singer from 2013 to 2015, taking the place of Scott Weiland. Bennington also performed as a guest with STP in 2001 on the Family Values Tour, developing a friendship with Weiland, who he cited as one of his primary musical influences.

Scott Weiland’s widow Jamie wrote on Instagram, “Rest In Peace, @chesterbe. My thoughts are with your family, your band and the many that are holding you in their broken hearts today.”

Stone Temple Pilots bassist Robert DeLeo posted a link to STP performing “Wonderful” live in 2001, featuring both Scott Weiland and Chester Bennington on vocals. He also shared a rare photo of Bennington backstage.

STP also wrote on Facebook, “It is a sad day today to know that so many of us will no longer share in your laughter, friendship and love. You showed us time and time again what it is to be an incredible human being. A beacon of light and hope is what you will always be to us. We love you Chester. We will miss you.”

Scott Weiland exited STP in 2013, while Bennington sang with the band from 2013 to 2015, including on the EP High Rise. Weiland died in December 2015.
