We usually hear a lot of Good Guy Dave Grohl stories, but now we may need a new Metallica category for Good Guy James Hetfield. A female Metallica fan named Dee Gallant has revealed a photo Hetfield texted her after they talked to verify his identity, as Hetfield reached out to her after hearing her remarkable story. Lars Ulrich showed of his surprising new hair look in a recent photo.

Gallant was confronted by a cougar when walking her dog Murphy recently on Vancouver Island, but she screamed at it in an attempt to make it go away. Gallant can be heard on video yelling out, “Get out of here,” “Bad kitty,” and “I’ll fight you.” She said that she played the Metallica song “Don’t Tread On Me” on her phone as she contemplated what to do, and the song may have saved her life.

“It didn’t respond to that either. It just stayed locked on to me and seemed really interested, so that is when I decided to stop recording and try to do something else… I quickly rifled through my iTunes and found Metallica ‘Don’t Tread On Me.’ I thought it was the noisiest thing on my phone that would probably scare it. That was also the message I wanted to convey to the cougar… As soon as it started to play, he buggered off into the bush.”

James Hetfield then called her after he heard what happened, Victoria News reports.

“He was just a great guy, and he knew Murphy’s name. I still can’t believe James Hetfield knows my dog’s name.” Gallant also shared her story with CTV News. In other Metallica news, Tool frontman Maynard James Keenan poked fun last week at Lars Ulrich’s feud with Napster.
