During his show in Chicago on Wednesday (Aug. 27th), Neil Young debuted a new anti-Trump song called “Big Crime.” The track, which calls to “clean the White House out,” specifically takes aim at the President for his recent takeover of Washington, DC’s law enforcement.
Earlier this month, Donald Trump declared a “crime emergency” in the city, placed the district’s police department under federal control, and deployed approximately 800 National Guard troops to the area.
Following his performance of “Big Crime” in Chicago, Young shared the song’s lyrics as well as audio of him soundchecking the track to his website Neil Young Archives.
“No more great again / No – no more great again / There’s big crime in DC at THE White House,” the song begins. “Don’t need no fascist rules / Don’t want no fascist schools / Don’t want soldiers on our streets / There’s big crime in DC at THE White House.”
This is far from the first time Young has condemned Trump. Earlier this year, the musician wrote on his website that Trump is “out of control” and that “we need a real president.”
Young, who is a dual citizen of both Canada and the US, also expressed concern that Trump may begin to ban anyone who criticizes him from re-entering the country.
“If the fact that I think Donald Trump is the worst president in the history from our great country could stop me from coming back, what does that say for freedom?” Young wrote. “Remember freedom of speech? By these latest actions of our US government, it seems that those who speak out freely with their own opinions are now vulnerable to a non-existent Trump law. Then it seems to me that if you voted for Kamala Harris over Trump, that makes it possible for you to go to jail or be detained, punished in some way for not showing allegiance to what?”
