Stone Temple Pilots were one of those bands back in the 1990s that were very well liked and respected by the fans, but by their peers of other musicians who held the same kind of musical genre with them; they weren’t all too favored.
In fact, unfortunately, Stone Temple Pilots were often made fun of and mocked in their circle for buying in on a sound rather than being authentic. At least, this is the firepower that many other bands used against them. Now, not all bands felt this way about Stone Temple Pilots. Some bands and members of those bands felt that the Stone Temple Pilots were incredibly gifted musicians who made music that they wanted that just so happened to go over extremely well.
Case and point here is former drummer of Pearl Jam, Dave Abbruzzese who recently reposted a collage of images showcasing all of the great drummers out of the 1990s era for Alternative bands.
In the collage we see many drummers showcased. Sean Kinney of Alice in Chains, Dave Grohl of Nirvana, Matt Cameron of Sound Garden, Pearl Jam, Temple of the Dog, Eric Kretz of Stone Temple Pilots, Dan Peters of Mudhoney, Nirvana, Dale Crover of the Melvins, Nirvana, Barret Martin of Screaming Trees and Mad Season are all showcased in the images that were shared by Dave along with himself from Pearl Jam.
It seems that Dave holds all of these drummers up to a pretty high regard and he has played shows with a handful of these drummers at one point or another which makes it that much more special to see him speak about on the Facebook post. Dave kept it pretty short for a caption on the repost as all he had to say was “Rawk!”. We feel the same way, Dave.
