Pearl Jam have released their first new song in five years “Can’t Deny Me” to Ten Club members. You can download the full song by logging into your account on PearlJam.com. The band contributed “Obey The Law Of The Heart” to the Basmati Blues soundtrack last year but it didn’t feature Eddie Vedder on lead vocals, it was largely a Stone Gossard creative vehicle.

Pearl Jam’s last album was 2013’s Lightning Bolt. The band are set to tour South America, Europe, and North America this year.

Below are some lyrics from the song (they may not be exact, these are by ear), which appear to have some references to President Donald Trump.

‘And now you want me to plead/and be so grateful/for the air that I need’

‘You may be rich but you can’t deny me/got nothing but the will to survive’

‘Try to talk down to me/my mind it ain’t so simple/your vocabulary/your ignorance is sinful.’

‘The country you are poisoning/condition critical’

‘You know you’re sick and you can’t deny me/you got nothing got something to hide/we see right through you and you can’t deny me’

You can download the full song in the Ten Club section on PearlJam.com if you are a member. Below is a short clip.

Pearl Jam have become pathetic SJWs apparently.

Pearl Jam’s stance on political, social and economic issues has been the same since day one….

      • igotwormz

Exactly. Better also explain to the dude that Nirvana’s ‘Rape Me’ wasn’t actually about women wanting to be sexually assaulted.

      • gdminority02

Except they use to make decent catchy music. Now they can’t do that anymore.

Keep on sucking on Satan’s dick, Eddie Vedder.

        • Corndog

I completely disagree. Loved the last few albums, which were full of ‘decent, catchy music’. Have you actually listened to Pearl Jam, Backspacer or Lightning Bolt? Did you spin them more than once to give them a chance to breathe and grow on you?

It’s been my experience that most people that make statements like that haven’t listened to much of anything since Yield. That may not be the case here but it’s worth noting. If you gave the albums I mentioned above a reasonable chance and still didn’t like them then that’s fair enough. We don’t all have to agree and like the same stuff. For example, I know it’s almost sacrilege to say around these parts but I’ve never liked Soundgarden, yet I know a lot of people here would cite them as their favourite band.

I agree. Most people stopped listening to PJ at the No Code/ Yield era. Pearl Jam and Backspacer are really good, but I didn’t like Lightning Bolt. The 3 initial songs are killers, but then it becomes a bit boring, for me.
Yup, Soundgarden is my biggest influence, for sure! 😀
But I started listening to the big 4 (PJ, SG, AIC and Nirvana) all at the same time back in 93. I started listening to STP later, maybe 95. But I understand why someone wouldn’t like SG or AIC, for instance.

          • gdminority02

Correction: Most fake mainstream Pearl Jam fans stopped listening to the band when No Code and Yield came out. Real fans stuck with them and supported them through their whole career until they stopped making good music.

          • Corndog

I can understand why you didn’t like LB but I don’t think the issue is with the individual songs being bad, but rather with the track listing. Problem is that it starts off really strong right up to the middle, then just sort of trails off towards the end. The last several songs are too similar and I believe the album would have greatly benefited if they had been spread throughout the track listing rather than all in a row at the end. Do you know what I mean?

          • Bruno Sílvio Martins

I know what you mean. That’s a good review of the album. I think that Backspacer is better too because it’s short and to the point. But for me “Avocado” is the the best out of these 3.

          • gdminority02

To each his own, but Backspacer and Lighting Bolt are awful albums and the worst records in their catalog, IMO. If I were to rank all of Pearl Jam’s albums from best to worst, it would look like this:

            1. Vs.
            2. Ten
            3. Pearl Jam
            4. Riot Act
            5. Binaural
            6. Yield
            7. No Code
            8. Vitalogy
            9. Backspacer
            10. Lighting Bolt

          • Corndog

Ok grand. At least you listened to them. If you really like PJ that much though then it’s maybe worth giving those two albums another shot? Some of my favourite albums were ones I didn’t like initially. Ten has been my favourite albums for about 26 years now but the first few times I heard it I thought it was utter shite.

Interesting that you would put Binaural so far up your list. For me personally it is the only PJ album I actually dislike and I’d take Backspacer or Lightning Bolt over it any day of the week and twice on Sundays.

          • Bruno Sílvio Martins

Binaural is very dark but I like it. Just for the fun of it here’s my top PJ albums:

            1.Vs
            2.Ten
            3.Vitalogy
            4.No Code
            5.Yield
            6.Avocado
            7.Riot Act
            8.Binaural
            9.Backspacer
            10.Lightning Bolt

I have to mention that one of my all time favorite live albums is Live in Atlanta, the full concert from the Dissident triple cd Single. Practically all of Ten and Vs live at the most visceral point of the band (92/93/94). So this one would be 2,5 on the list.

    • Daz72

      Yup, it’s pretty sad.

Band has been terrible for many years now.

  • Stone Gossardish

This will sound better live, like most Pearl Jam, and more guitar driven. I am surprised they left that one squeal in there, since Ed couldn’t hit the note and never would live. Also, it would sound just fine if he sung it naturally there, but I trust there was a reason.

Does this mean an album is coming? I doubt it. At times the song sounds a bit stale, but this was a major shock and pleasant surprise indeed.

    • Olga Stewart

At this point, I think it’s case of we take what we can, music wise from them.
