Former Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist Josh Klinghoffer revealed that the first time he met Anthony Kiedis, Flea, and Chad Smith, it was opening for RHCP when they toured with Foo Fighters and Stone Temple Pilots on separate tour legs in 2000. Klinghoffer was already friends with John Frusciante. Alternative Nation transcribed Klinghoffer’s remarks from a new WTF with Marc Maron podcast interview. John Frusciante’s heroin meltdown was recently discussed by an RHCP member.

“I just played songs, and then I played with Bob [Forrest] until I was probably about 20 or 21.

We just did the one [Bicycle Thief record], but being friends with the Chili Peppers, we did two opening tours for them, as the first of three. One was with Foo Fighters, one was with Stone Temple Pilots. It was on that Californication tour, when they were hitting it hard, and going to every corner of the world.”

“We did two three weeks legs. It was full immersion, which is why when I ultimately joined later on, everything felt kind of natural. I had known everyone in their tour family for years. I knew how it worked.”

Xglacius posted on Reddit about Frusciante recently replacing Klinghoffer, “I am disappointed. I’m a huge fan of the band. I’ve always thought that the day Frusciante came back would be the happiest day of my life. But, the way the band made the announcement (looking like a hacked account) and now after Josh’s interview knowing how the band made the change I am very disappointed.

It’s all kind of dark, like they are acting as bad people… I don’t know, such a happy moment as Frusciante coming back, and I feel kind of bad. Does anyone feel the same way?”

AssdogDave0 responded, “The ‘looking like a hacked account’ thing is complete bullshit lol. It’s a dumb meme that has gone on far too long. It’s literally just a text post. It’s a written announcement posted to all of their social media, including their website. I really don’t get what people expected? A video of the 4 of them sitting on a couch saying ‘lmao see ya joshie.’ The dude got fired, they’re not going to hype it up lol.” Red Hot Chili Peppers recently canceled their first John Frusciante reunion show.
