Former Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist John Frusciante has broken his silence in a rare fan Q&A at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery at a Johnny Ramone tribute event, announcing to fans that he is working on new music. He discussed gear and mixing techniques. Alternative Nation transcribed some of his comments. Dave Grohl revealed who rejected joining Red Hot Chili Peppers as a new guitarist last week.

Frusciante said, “A Mackie mixer, is a good mixer.”

He added, “I have a bunch of them, they’re good. They’re not expensive at all. It’s a good thing to have, even if you’re doing music on your computer.”

A fan asked, “Are you working on new stuff, on your own, are you working on new stuff?”

Frusciante responded, “Yeah, yeah. Now I make music. I’m on a different setup than I did that record [The Empyrean].”

He also said, “A lot of my favorite music was made with just the Mackie mixer.”

Jimmy Page recently revealed the bold truth about Red Hot Chili Peppers. Frusciante was spotted last year with Flea at a boxing fight at Staples Center in Los Angeles. It was the first time he was photographed with a Red Hot Chili Peppers member since his final show with the band in August 2007. Red Hot Chili Peppers are currently recording a new album, their third with guitarist Josh Klinghoffer.

John Frusciante has kept a very low profile since exiting the Chili Peppers a decade ago, mostly releasing electronic music. He has not performed a live show since 2007, though he is seen hanging out with Johnny Ramone’s widow Linda from time to time. Gavin Rossdale recently joined a supergroup with a Red Hot Chili Peppers icon.
