With how much the Red Hot Chili Peppers have going on in their songs when it comes to guitar work, one would be surprised to know that there are not already two guitarists in the band. Now, while this is already very well known to Red Hot Chili Peppers fans across the globe; it would be an easy assumption to have that there were multiple guitarists.

While there has been a revolving door of guitarists for the band, one thing has stayed very consistent and that is the musicality that has been involved since day one. John Frusciante has always been the guitarist of the band that has been revered most by the band themselves and fans.

After one of the many hiatus’ from John, he returned in December 2019 leading to guitarist Josh Klinghoffer (who had been arguably the best runner up) being dismissed. Enter Bob Forrest, who has played with Frusciante and Klinghoffer in Thelonious Monster and The Bicycle Thief, discussed him predicting Frusciante’s return to Red Hot Chili Peppers in a recent interview.

In the interview, transcribed by Alternative Nation, Forrest also discussed coming up with an idea for both guitarists to be in the band, which did not end up happening, but would have been a fantastic rendition of the band.

Forrest says that he said to the following to singer, Anthony Keidis: “John’s gonna come back. (This is about a year and a half ago.)”

Anthony responded: “Never, he won’t do it.”

Forrest followed: “No, he’s gonna come back. I can just tell…but there’s gonna be a problem with Frusciante and Klinghoffer because they were best friends and you gotta work that out. Let’s say – Josh move to keyboard and second guitar or John writes the songs and you make the record together, but John doesn’t go on tour. You guys gotta figure that out.”

Antony said to Bob Forrest: “It’s never gonna happen, dude. Why are you talking about this?”

As of December 2019, John has been back in the band. Check out the full interview below.
