Roses in December have returned with their blazing new single “Inferno.” Building on the defiant energy of their past releases, the track erupts into a sonic firestorm that condemns the corruption and decay of the modern world.

“‘Inferno,’ our proggiest song to date, highlights our despair at the increasing likelihood of the world becoming a spherical flame pit either from global warming, war, or a nuclear holocaust,” says the band. “With world leaders/oligarchs snatching more and more power from the people via force or covert means.”

Channeling Nirvana’s “loud-quiet-loud” dynamic, the song starts slowly and melodically, with the lyric “the walls are closing in, the sky is falling down” standing out as a stark reflection of the state of the world.

It’s not long before “Inferno” kicks into hyperdrive, with the chorus unleashing an intensity that drives home the band’s frustrations. Aggressive drums and rage-filled riffs crash together in a whirlwind of sound, propelling the track forward with relentless urgency.

Roses in December’s prog-rock influences truly shine in the latter half of the song, drawing clear inspiration from bands like Opeth and Muse. Funk-driven bass lines, technical drum patterns, and intricate solos rise to the forefront, pushing “Inferno” beyond genre boundaries and mirroring the chaos and beauty of resistance.

The accompanying artwork for “Inferno,” created by Viz comics cartoonist Lee Healey, amplifies the track’s lyrical themes by depicting world leaders and billionaires gleefully sharing wine with the devil as flames rise around them.

“Inferno is this turning point, a feeling of abject hopelessness as we hurtle into a hellish blaze,” the band says of the track’s place in their upcoming EP “Divided and Conquered.”

Yet even in its despair, “Inferno” serves as a rallying cry, urging listeners to rise against the corruption and complacency consuming the world.
