Sammy Hagar Shares How He Protects His Voice at 78
Sammy Hagar has opened up about the routines and discipline he credits for staying performance-ready at 78, as the former Van Halen frontman prepares to return to the UK for his first solo tour there in three decades. Hagar, famous for high-energy sets and a powerful voice, said his priorities have long been centred on protecting his ability to sing night after night.
Speaking in an exclusive interview, The Express reported that Hagar said he often removed himself from late-night chaos on the road, even instructing tour staff to keep him away from temptation because “I had a job to do,” and he did not want to feel the after-effects of overindulgence when it was time to perform.
Hagar also described the health measures he says help him maintain stamina, including workouts, supplements, anti-inflammatories and regular IV stem-cell therapy every six months. He added that he avoids smoking, limits late nights, and keeps his voice active by singing challenging songs as a form of warm-up rather than relying only on traditional scales.
The approach fits with past road stories, including his account of being locked in a hotel room to avoid heavy partying during the most chaotic moments of touring.
Hagar’s UK dates are set to feature his Best Of All Worlds band with Mr. Michael Anthony, Mr. Joe Satriani, Mr. Kenny Aronoff and Mr. Greg Phillinganes, with Hagar stressing the performances will be fully live, with no taped parts, as he aims to deliver what he called a top-level rock show for audiences who have waited years to see him headline again.
