Axl Rose, Slash, and Duff McKagan had reunited under the Guns N’ Roses flag six long years back and fans saw the unexpected happening. It was officially labeled as “Not In This Lifetime…Tour”. Now, it seems that the band has some plans in the pipeline for a new album as revealed by the band’s legendary guitarist.
Slash talks about a new Guns N’ Roses album
It is noted that the huge reunion is yet to result in a brand-new album, as the band instead opted to trickle-release alternate takes of old classics (2018’s “Shadow of Your Love” single) or reworked material (2021’s “Absurd” and “Hard Skool”).
Earlier this year, Slash confirmed that new Guns N’ Roses music was indeed coming, but shied away from giving away any details about when we can expect it. During a recent appearance on “Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk”, the guitarist said that the band will be free to start serious work on the new album come next summer:
“Those are gonna come out. They’re really good, too. So I’m excited for those. We’re just gonna put out like one or two songs, and another one or two songs. And I think that’s gonna be pretty much all of ’em. I’m not sure exactly how many we did in total… There’s a couple of epic ones coming out, so I’m excited about that.”
“I wanna go in and cut a whole brand new record at some point, probably sooner than later. But other than that, we have stuff that we’ve still got to come out. So that’s gonna be coming out piecemeal over the next — I don’t know — over the next few months or something like that. So that’s basically it. We have one more tour left to do next summer, and then that’ll free us up to be able to go in and work on a new record.”
It’s certainly going to be interesting to hear what the band is capable of coming up with at this point in their career, especially given how well they now seem to work as a unit. This January, Slash noted how well he’s been getting along with Axl Rose since the 2016 reunion:
“When we got together, Axl and I really got over this major sort of hump of negativity that we’ve been carrying around for years and years. It was a real simple, relatively short conversation that we had… In all these years that we’ve been apart, he’s become super-fucking professional.
“And he’s never missed a beat during this whole time. So it’s been great. There has been a sort of synergy that’s been happening this last six years that we never had in our first incarnation.”
Guns N’ Roses is set to play a couple of more shows in Mexico before the band’s Asian tour leg begins in early November.
