Former Guns N’ Roses manager Alan Niven recently claimed that Slash told him that new material for Guns N’ Roses’ reunion album is initially being based on material Axl Rose recorded during the Chinese Democracy era, and that Slash didn’t seem thrilled with the idea. According to Slash in a new Zeit interview, this is half true and half false, as Axl has presented material he worked on alone, but Slash seems happy with the direction the new Guns N’ Roses album is going. Below are translated quotes.

ZEIT ONLINE: Do you sometimes wonder what the chemistry between musicians is?

Slash: I’m trying not to think about that. Ruminating is not really beneficial for a musician. You think too much anyway: between two concerts, on the bus, plane or studio … When you’re on stage with a rock ‘n’ roll band, it’s best not to think about it. Or at least as little as possible. Listening to what you do before you do it is the ability we all strive for. That means: musically speaking as easily as speaking.

ZEIT ONLINE: Until mid-August you are still on tour with Myles Kennedy & The Conspirators. What plans do you have for the time after?

Slash: When I get back home, I’ll sit down with the guys from Guns N ‘Roses and we’ll focus on a new album together.

ZEIT ONLINE: You have not worked on it yet?

Slash: No, but I know that everyone involved really wants to do this record. We talk about it, and Axl already has a lot of material that he produced alone. I think we are in great shape to get started.
