Soundgarden have released a hilarious satirical new video of Kim Thayil and Dinosaur Jr.’s J. Mascis auditioning to join The Postal Service for their reunion tour. The band wrote, “Watch Kim audition to be the next @postalservicemusic band member! Link is in our profile. #MakeYourVoteCount @HeadCountOrg.”
Vicky Cornell revealed why we’re ‘closer’ to justice for Chris Cornell yesterday. Soundgarden also recently paid tribute to Eddie Van Halen after his death from cancer, “Your impact on rock, the music industry and pop culture in general is immeasurable. Your creative innovations influenced the songwriting and playing technique of so many musicians on a variety of stringed instruments, along with the engineering and design of guitars, amplifiers, effects pedals and other gear. Even your smile is memorable. Eternal peace Eddie Van Halen.”
The band also celebrated the 10th anniversary of their retrospective album Telephantasm: 10 years ago this week Soundgarden released Telephantasm, a retrospective “best of” collection on A&M/Universal records that reached back 25 years over the band’s career. The album contained 24 tracks on 2 CDs, or 3 vinyl discs. The 2-CD package came with a bonus 20-video DVD. The album features recordings from all members of Soundgarden past and present, including Hiro Yamamoto, Jason Everman and Scott Sundquist.
The collection came in various other packages; these included a super deluxe box set containing all of the above formats plus more (pictured here in the product shot), an iTunes download and an abridged, single-disc version that was included with the video game Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock, which shipped over a million copies, earning the album platinum status.
Josh Graham began his work as the band’s art director with Telephantasm’s packaging, including the multi-paneled cover also posted here.
The singles were “Black Rain”, and “The Telephantasm” (iTunes full album download bonus and Black Friday 7” vinyl).
