Mia Tyler, the daughter of Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler, has spoken out in support of Kelly Osbourne after Osbourne faced a wave of online criticism about her appearance following the BRIT Awards.

Osbourne addressed the comments in a statement on Instagram, describing the backlash as especially painful while she says she is dealing with an intensely difficult period in her life.

In her statement, Osbourne said there was “a special kind of cruelty” in attacking someone who is clearly struggling, adding that people were “kicking me while I’m down” and turning her personal challenges into gossip. She also pushed back against what she called dehumanising remarks, insisting she should not have to defend herself but would not “allow myself to be dehumanized in such a way.”

Tyler echoed that message in her own Instagram post, arguing that grief should not become an invitation for public debate about someone’s body. She wrote that “public grief is not public property” and urged commenters to consider that a person may be carrying something “heavier than your opinion.”

“Public grief is not public property! Grief can change a person. That doesn’t make their body a topic for debate,” Tyler said. “Before you comment on someone’s body, consider the possibility that they’re carrying something heavier than your opinion.”

Tyler also praised Osbourne’s composure in public while grieving a famous parent, calling it “real strength” to accept accolades connected to a late father while holding it together in front of the world.

“It takes real strength to stand in the public eye, accepting accolades for their late iconic father and hold themselves together in front of the world,” she said. “The least we can do is show the same grace in return.”

Tyler’s response follows her earlier public remarks when she criticised what she described as ‘shameful’ behaviour from fans, again framing the issue as one of compassion rather than spectacle.

The exchange adds to the wider discussion around online harassment and how public figures—and especially celebrity children—navigate grief and family pressures in front of an audience. Osbourne’s decision to directly address the comments, and Tyler’s choice to amplify the point, underline the growing pushback against body shaming and the expectation that personal hardship should remain a target for public judgement.
